Downing to demand Liverpool move

Reports emanating from England suggest Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing will officially put in a transfer request some time this week.

The Sun understands that Downing has made up his mind on a move to Barclays Premier League giants Liverpool after learning about their serious interest in him.

And despite having two years left on his current contract with Villa, Downing is determined to force a £20million move to Anfield, where he will be a part of manager Kenny Dalglish' rebuilding plans.

After a terrible start to their campaign last season, Liverpool decided the change things around by hiring club legend Kenny Dalglish as manager, who immediately splashed out over £50m on strike duo Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

The wily old Scot was also not afraid to blood a number of youngsters and hand them their first-team opportunities, and the future looks bright at Anfield.

Already the club have landed England U-21 star Jordan Henderson from Sunderland this summer, and Downing has regularly been tipped to follow suit.

"Stewy has made up his mind - he wants to go to Liverpool and hopes Villa will agree to let him leave," a close friend of Downing was reported to have said, according to The Sun.

Downing enjoyed a stellar season for Villa last term, playing in all 38 Premier League matches and netting seven goals along the way.
